Denver Qualifying: Bo Butner No. 10 in the JHG Chevrolet Camaro
DENVER (July 15, 2023) – Goodbyes are often difficult, but Bo Butner and his Johnson's Horsepowered Garage Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stock team are eager to make the best of the final day of the final race to be held at picturesque Bandimere Speedway. Qualified in the No. 10 position, Butner will race Camrie Caruso in the first round of eliminations at the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals.
In the first round of qualifying, Butner landed ninth on the qualifying sheet with a 7.003-second pass at 195.87 mph. The thin Denver air starves the naturally aspirated Pro Stock cars, so for comparison, the quickest time in that first session belonged to Matt Hartford with a 6.942, 196.13. Butner improved I the later session on Friday and brought in a 6.960, 196.19, and on Saturday, with similar conditions, he put up a 6.981 at 195.99 and a 7.030 at 196.07 that had him in the No. 10 spot when all was said and done.
Butner and Caruso have raced twice so far this season, including in the Phoenix final where Butner missed his first race win of the season in a very close race. His day in Denver will begin with Caruso, but to claim his first trophy for Johnson's Horsepowered Garage, Butner will likely have to get through a string of tough opponents in a field packed with capable Pro Stock cars.
"Our side of the ladder is tough, but in this day and age, it doesn't matter which side of it you're on or who's in the other lane – they're all tough," said Butner, who has yet to win at Bandimere Speedway. "But this is Denver, and up here in these conditions with these Pro Stock cars, anybody could do anything at any time. We look for a long day today, and maybe a little luck for the JHG team. Sad to see this race track go, but hopefully, we'll make a good memory here this last time."
Eliminations for the 43rd annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. MDT on Sunday, July 16.
